This brief TedTalk was fascinating. I was intrigued by the suggestion the typical formula for success (“If I work harder, I'll be more successful”) is scientifically broken and backwards. Shawn Achor, CEO of Good Think Inc., where he researches and teaches about positive psychology, says,

“The absence of disease is not health. Here's how we get to health: We need to reverse the formula for happiness and success.”

The good news is we CAN reverse the formula and become positive in the present so our brains will work even more successfully (harder, faster, more intelligently). In fact, Mr. Achor’s research says your brain in the positive state performs significantly and measurably better than at negative, neutral or stressed and every single business outcome improves:

  • 31% more productive
  • 37% better at sales
  • Doctors are 19% faster, more accurate with correct diagnosis
